Walking to the earth

By | Blog | No Comments

My friend took this photo when he did hiking on last weekend. Then, he asks me to replace cloudy sky to clean and blue one.

However, I had extra time. This is what I end-up with.  I turn a normal photos to sci-fi  image.

Used software:

Photoshop only.

My Wish List For Dec

By | Blog | No Comments

e3d_v2_nov-3

1. Element 3D V2

Big Update

Reflection map, Null control inside of element 3D, Physical shaders, integrate C4D shaders to Element, HDRI lighting, Shadow control.

It seems like we don’t need animate or export all multi-pass anymore.

Plus it supports CUDA power to render which means way faster than rendering in C4D which only uses CPU beside you have other third party render plug ins.

It will release on Dec 2!!!!!!! Can’t wait. Definitely going to buy this!!

2. Octane Render

I mention the third party render plug ins. There are some such as V-ray, Mental ray and others.

But I think Octane Render is the most powerful one since it has unbelievable fast preview window.

Other plug ins can’t beat the speed of the previewing.

As big Cinema 4D user, I always complain about render time even preview render. This would be the perfect solution.

http://render.otoy.com/index.php

it is 199.00 Eur so $248.22

Nodes2-770x425

3. NODE 2

It is a After Effect Plug in which can create connected motion graphics and abstract particle world. It is somewhat like Trapcode form, and Plexus 2.

But the Form and Plexus 2 doesn’t support  connecting string control. Plexus has the line control but it is very limited.

However, Node 2 has better controls for the line animation. It has used for many futuristic UI pannel graphics for  Ender’s Game.

Very useful plug in for infographic projects.

it is $299

4.  Substance Indie Pack

Allegorithmic has fantastic products for texture and 3D model artist.

Indie Pack contains Substance Painter, Deisgner, and BitMap2Material 3

On preview Blog, I mentioned Bitmap2Material 3. So I will skip explanation about it. it was the light and simple software that can create texture out of pictures.

Substance Painter is an advanced texture software that could add more realism to your model.

Subtance Designer is another advanced software for texture artist. It allows you to create maps for physical based rendering shaders. Moreover,
it visualized your materials directly in the 3d View with your model. It is node based software like nuke.
Since I am not a master of making 3D model and still need to learn more about fixing UV map,
This package is not my priory wish list. But definitely attracting products.
It is $259

Crazy Bump vs Bitmap2Material

By | Blog | No Comments

Today, I want to introduce two software for creating own materials ; Crazy Bump and Bitmap2Material 3

Since I am not a super expert of creating UV map and texture map, I mostly rely on material packs from Cinema 4D and Element 3D.

Even though those two programs have pretty decent materials but, as a artist, I faced the limitation.

In my personal opinion, what makes 3D object better and realistic are lighting and texture.

So, I found those two software which is not that expensive but definitely practical and useful tool for some artist like me.

crazybump-1280x720

1. Crazy Bump

http://www.crazybump.com/

Very easy layout, user friendly, strict forward instruction.

You don’t need any tutorial in order to use this. Just drag pictures and it will automatically creates bump/normal/diffuse map.

Always can check your material with live preview.

It has 30 day trial. Feel free to explore this software.

bitmap2material

2.B3M

http://www.allegorithmic.com/products/bitmap2material

This is very similar to the Crazybump but with more controllers.

I am a big fan of the allegorithmic products. Even though I am not professional 3D modeler and texture artist, I have been always reading all the articles about 3D industry pipelines.

They have some badass software for texturing 3D models  such as  Substance Painter and Substance Designer. They are little bit pricey but worth it.

Okay, This product might be the cheapest product of allergorithmic.

I prefer to use this software since it has better control on each categories. You mostly do not need to go to Photoshop to clean up your picture in order to get better materials

You can edit image inside of this software and control lights, shadows, colors and displacements.

I tried the trial version and it was stronger tool than I thought.

If you guys know other software for creating materials, Feel free to share with me and others.

DEM EARTH V2

By | Blog | No Comments

BsxfuvSIgAAAH3d

CinemaPlugins.com has several strong plugins but the most powerful plugin is DEM Earth V2.

I found his plugin while I did research how to get DEM maps and bump map for creating mountain environment.

It is little bit expensive which costs 329 dollars for the first year and rest other years costs 9.99 dollars.

Since the map keep updating in every year, it only gives on year registration.

However, it makes your life much easier.

You can skip the complex steps to get DEM map, Bump Map, and Displacement workflow. I am not saying those methods are not practical.

However, you can search, download, and get displacement shade all in Cinema 4D.

Let’s say you insert wrong map into displacement, all you need to do is just drag the map to where you want and  it will give you live preview displacement.

Topography 3D model using DEM data

By | Blog | No Comments

Hi. First of all Thanks to Temanibble for awesome tutorials. AND you are life-savior

At work, my boss asked me to find how to create the black and white bump map without losing DEM data.

He did not know how to do, so I did research whole day and I ended up with this tutorial.

To simply this workflow.

1. get DEM images from open topography webstie.

2. Using Microdem which is a free software, convert it into greyscale bump map

3. Using 3D softwares, (ex, Cinema 4D, MAYA, 3D MAX)

I found a glass artist from Sydney, Ben Young.

He created very cool arts only with glass and concrete.

Each layers of glass actually gives some sense of sea wave motion to audience.

Plus the grey and blue color mix is simple but well balanced to each other.

If you guys want to see more of his work and to read more description about each of his work

One of my favorite animation. Never bought more than two DVDs except this one.

it is all about the colorful background elements and black silhouettes.

Sound simple and not sophisticated until you actually watch it.

Very unique styles with six different great stories.

I highly recommend to watch or buy this DVD.

Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men

By | Blog | No Comments

Il-video-musicale-Little-Talks-dei-Of-Monsters-And-Men.3

When I watched this music video, I thought this is the most beautiful music video I ever seen in 2 years.

Definitely breathtaking Matt painting with realistic photos.

Because of the entire music video has black and white style, some of the few color elements gives a huge impact to viewers.

Unlike most of these music video,  It feels more short film rather than music video because of its story.

Even though it seems most of the elements are 2D, viewers feel more 3D since it is very well composed with depth and perspective.
